A trimmed wick encourages a calm, even flame. Before lighting, let the candle cool completely and remove any dark, loose wick material.
Aim for a wick length of approximately 6 mm. A dedicated wick trimmer is useful, but small clean scissors work too. Always remove the trimmed piece from the wax before lighting.
If the flame becomes unusually tall, flickers strongly or produces visible soot, extinguish the candle, let it cool and check the wick again.
Small, consistent care habits help a handmade candle remain beautiful from the first light to the final burn.
A note on safety
Never leave a burning candle unattended. Keep it on a stable, heat-resistant surface and move dried flowers, fabric and other decorations safely away from the flame.
